Course Description
The Special Occasion Responsible Service online course provides responsible alcohol service training to unpaid volunteers who serve and sell alcohol at public events.
Special Occasion Permits are required for anyone selling alcohol, or for anyone serving alcohol at an event that is not held in a commercially permitted establishment, a private residence, or another private place. This is true for private, invitation-only events as well as for public events. For more information about Special Occasion Permits and the types of events that require them, visit the Saskatchewan Liquor and Gaming (SLGA) website.
This course helps you understand your responsibilities and what you can do to ensure the safety of people attending any successful event.
What you will learn
Upon completion of this course, you should be able to:
- Fulfil your social responsibilities.
- Achieve a safe and enjoyable atmosphere at the event while reducing liability.
- Understand and apply relevant liquor legislation.
- Promote the responsible sale of liquor.
- Identify signs of intoxication and the techniques to effectively refuse or discontinue service.
Important information
Your Special Occasion Permit Online Course certification is valid for five years from the date you successfully complete the course.
If you are looking for the mandatory provincial responsible service program or if you will be selling or serving alcohol in a liquor permitted establishment, such as a commercial bar or restaurant, as part of your job, you must complete Serve It Right Saskatchewan (SIRS).
