Amy Peters, emerit Tour Guide
I am a person who wants work to be enjoyable and meaningful and it took a while to figure out what that meant for me.
At one point, as I was out hiking through a Saskatchewan ravine with other people, I thought to myself that it would be great to go hiking with people as a job.
I didn't believe that it was a possibility until I began to do some research and discovered all kinds of tour companies that focused on active travel and the outdoors, as well as some with emphasis on personal development and community building.
I have now been working as a trip leader, hiking guide and outdoor educator for the last 15 years.
My focus has generally been on wilderness expeditions two to four weeks in length.
This work brings together my passions in physical fitness, learning, challenge, team building and exploration.
I continue to love spending lots of time outside, finding amazing places that I get to share with so many different people.
This year, I decided to complete emerit certification as a Tour Guide, because I continue to love learning and wanted to ensure that what I am doing meets the standards set by the broader tourism industry.
I have appreciated seeing the tourism industry from a new lens and identifying how I fit into a bigger picture.
